Was shocked to see these for sale, would make nice garden ornaments for someone with a spare £60,000

Those two have always been "away with the fairies"
XR770 is not the best surviving Lightning in this country and to be looking at 30k is laughable.

I was on the understanding it belonged to the people of Grimsby as a gift from RAF Binbrook ?

They ought to have had a stall at this event next month!

Re: "2 Planes For Sale On Gumtree
I had heard they were selling these to pay for the restoration of the T.5 to ground running status at Wickenby.
Best of Luck to them with that and selling the others

I hope they both find a good home. It would be criminal for them to be lost to a scrap yard.

Morning.
Point 1.- Agreed, AA is a bit ropey on the corrosion front and has a cracked undercarriage leg as well.
Point 2- I am assuming you mean 416 that used to be at Grainthorpe with AA years ago.....unless anything has changed the last time i saw her she was in a bit of a state ?
Point 3- Agreed again however wasn't it the local Council at the time in Grimsby that didn't actually want the Lightning and were very reluctant to put it on display in the town because of the risk of vandal attacks etc ?
It would be nice if they did find a good home , it really would however its ok buying one but that, and i am only suspecting, is only the beginning of the fun..........the restoration, the upkeep, the time/ commitment etc is the hard part ( unless you have a bit of space and alot of cash!!). Iam sure any preservationist would agree in the long run.
The Lightning should be ok at Waddington for a while so i have heard but any new potential buyer would no doubt be paying for the dismantling and transport off the base when the time does come to get rid.
Hopefully someone will come along and save them both and it will be interesting to follow what happens.......
Regards
Glenn.

Re: "2 Planes For Sale On Gumtree
Not necessarily 416, there was also a nose section and lots and lots of bits from a couple of Saudi ones, I'm presuming enough to build a complete example, including an uncut pair of wings. (I presume all this stuff has now moved when they had a clear out?) I agree 416 is looking a bit "weathered" and she is by now I suspect a "static restoration only".CLPSLFBT wrote:
