Dave Say's Prince of Wales will be Commissioned

Post by Andy_99 » Fri Sep 05, 2014 3:20 pm

Just seen on Sky Dave has stated that the POW will be bought into service - Result

Now just have to find some planes that work to fly from it.

Hope that means it will be equipped in the same way as the QE, so that there will be continuity in the deployment capability. Don't want to see it as a helo carrier only.

The increase in uncertainties around the globe reinforces the necessity for defence to be be given greater focus once again, so this is welcome news.

And so get your shopping lists out Dave

1 carrier with an Air Wing of F-35s and the other as a Helicopter carrier perhaps?

what is with this "Duplicate post mods please remove this one " business.has this site become so clinical now that if more than one person does a posting relating to the same item someone has to jump on it demanding its removal !

Not quite, the poster created two threads about this topic (Pressed summit twice..?) and asked for one of the threads to be removed  Is that acceptable

Great news about Prince of Wales being commissioned but the big question is. Will there be enough F-35s serviceable to have aboard two carriers if they happen to sail at the same time  During the SDSR it said the carriers would sail with just 12 jets routinely  Just hope they are easy to maintain on a ship

Yes that's exactly what happened with the duplicate post.

We could always host other countries aircraft on our carrier in the event of a multi-nation deployment ---- Oh Scrub that idea we forgot the Cat & traps

I suspect one will be kept in service at a time, while the other is in dock for refit/maintenance/training. Just move the planes between the active one. I'd be surprised to see both at sea at the same time.

The important thing is the capability to have one carrier at sea at all times so the bad guys just don't wait until the carriers in dock before causing trouble. Of course the US have plenty more carriers to cover, but their unwillingness to go unilateral means our ability to offer carrier ops at all times is more important than just our own defense. It gives the UK real international clout.
