Iran unveiled indigenous Q-313 prototype

Post by Gary » Sat Feb 02, 2013 10:11 am

On Feb. 1, 2013, Iran unveiled its indigenous fighter jet named “Qaher 313″.

The prototype of the Q-313 (or F-313 according to the stencils applied to the aircraft), was presented to President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad and publicly displayed as part of the Ten-Day Dawn ceremonies held in Iran to celebrate the 1979′s victory of the Islamic Revolution.
In the previous days, the Iranian Defense Minister Brigadier General Ahmad Vahidi had said, “The aircraft will be different from the other fighter jets Iran has already made.”

I expect they've never even tested it on an RCS Facility, just copied various lines of other aircraft.

Great reporting by the Daily Mail as usual, manage to call a F-22 a F-18 and then call a F-18 a F-5!

See from 04:45. The Iranians admit that the flying sequences are from tests of a model. Flying footage shows the model taking off.

I'd be willing to place a sizeable bet that the grainy video of it flying is nothing more than an RC model with some jet sounds dubbed on top. I'm not saying it definitely is, but if I was putting money on it...

edit: ah, you beat me to it

Lets face it, that aircraft is never going to fly long attack missions, however don't discredit the fact that often when manufacturers show off a new aircraft it's a mock up model of it.

All that plane if it is a real aircraft that can actually fly needs to do is carry a single 500 lb bomb and be stealthy enough to get to a US ship off the coast and fly back.

Not particularly complex requirements.

I often wonder how a small stealthy fighter with a very small turning circle would fare when up against something bigger like an F-15.

The thing that struck me is the tiny intakes. I would imagine that they are only large enough to feed a very small engine. I would imagine is a reversed engineered J85 out of one of their indigenous F5 variants?

Aerodynamically it is very similar to some of the early concepts for the JSF:

It seems to have the wing off the Bird Of Prey stealth demonstrator from the 80's.
