What an epitaph though. THE FIRST of the trillions of human beings who have lived on this earth over countless centuries to have walked on the surface of the moon!
Wow!

I had the privledge to meet Neil at a World Conference in London, of the Worldwide Fund for Nature ( WWF) in November 1970. He gave an address on "Only One Planet". Chatting to him afterwards his humility and concern for conservation came across. At the time he was engaged through NASA in tracking the migration of caribou across North America.

Although he shunned publicity his name will not be forgotten.

RIP Neil -you are back amongst the stars.

There are not many people on this earth that almost everybody could name - you ask who was the first man to break the sound barrier, and a few might know. Who built the great wall of China - fewer would know. But you ask who was the first man on the moon - EVERYBODY knows. Neil Armstrong was a pioneer and a gentleman, his name is engraved in history like no others, God Speed Sir!

Well done on the banners too, on here and sister site

It's sad to hear of his passing, but what a life he had!

A man who was truly 'made of the right stuff'.

RIP to the first man who could look back at Earth as we had looked at the moon for millennia.

Sad news indeed - R.I.P. Sir!

I'm sure glad my parents dragged us out of bed and put us up in front of the then- b&w tv set to watch that historic moment in time! As I already commented on fb - thanks for changing the banner as a tribute to him!

Heard on the radio this morning that today has a blue moon, a fitting tribute to the great man who is being buried today. RIP Neil.

So did I.......... :)

In keeping with his modesty and his place at the heart of his local community, and despite some well-meaning calls for a funeral in Washington, his funeral service will be held today in the community of Indian Hills, Cincinatti where he has lived for many years, at his golf club.....

It just seems spot on.

I'm sure I read he was going to be buried somewhere in Ohio.
