Bad day for Phantom Lovers

Post by norm3392 » Tue Jul 03, 2012 9:26 pm

I can confirm that both XT597 and XV401 have been sold by MOD Disposals Agency, so they not be making the move to Old Sarum or form part of the Boscombe Down Aviation Collection. We were not informed they were for sale nor offered to tender for either of them. I am unable to confirm the intended fate of either of them. To date we have not been contacted by the new owners. Shame, but that seems to be the ways it goes these days.

Why is it a bad day?

They may actually end up getting the care and attention they deserve, rather than just await the axe man at Boscombe.

Fantastic news if it's true? :)
Everyone has a photographic memory; some just don't have film.

Certainly someone at Bruntingthorpe is after at least one of them, there was thread running on PPRuNe about it a week or so back, althought I understand XV401 may well not be in a safe condition to move with a view to preservation due to severe corrosion... Fingers crossed for XT597 though!

In response to HQ2, it's a bad day for me in that now we've moved outside of an MOD base and could have put 597 inside our new home, we weren't offered a bid at all!
401 is not in a good state and I would have chopped off the cockpit and saved that, again we didn't get a look in.
The new owners are not Bruntingthorpe although I would be delighted if 597 ended up there, although not as delighted as having it in the collection.
