Boscombe Down Aviation Collection

Post by norm3392 » Sat Jun 30, 2012 10:56 pm

Further to what has been reported here and elsewhere, I can confirm that the majority of the collection has been moved to Hangar 1 south at Old Sarum Airfield and will be open to the public from 1000hrs tomorrow (Sunday 1st July). Initially we're having a preview week, to see how we get on! Inside are BAC 111, Andover, Tornado F2, the Hunters, JP's, Jaguars, Hawk, BE.2 replica, Wasp, Sea Hawk , Swift, Canberras, Sea Harrier, Jindivik & Harrier GR.3. Outside (not assembled, but both complete) is a another JP and a Hunter.
We've left behind (ran out of drivers hours & crane!) Chipmunk, Meteor, Link Miles Trainer & Lightning.
Please note that neither of the 2 Phantoms have made the journey and I'm not certain we will get one.
We are obviously no longer "behind the wire", most of the cockpits are accessible, there's only our own security and the big one, you can bring/use a camera!
If you need to travel any great distance please view the website, boscombedownaviationcollection.uk and check out the opening hours to avoid disappointment.
There's an excellent cafeteria on the Airfield. Bring a hi-viz and ask at the tower for access to the grass and additional hangars, if you want to stay longer.
For the really brave, you can go sky diving as well as helicopter flights/lessons & aircraft flights/lessons.
Thanks for reading this and hopefully we can look forward to the future.

Thanks Gary,
Forgot to mention the Sycamore! We left it behind in order to get a trailer to accept it's 11' wide undercarriage and will need to notify that as a wide load. It is going to make the journey though. The Meteor also needs notifying at almost 23' wide, real fun when it gets on Wiltshires' roads.
