Gents,

I was over Mildenhall today and heard the same thoughts being discussed there. I've still got the same question that I was thinking earlier this year when they turned up and the rumours started then - where would the airframes to equip a permanent unit with CV-22s at Mildenhall come from this early in the types career? The USAF's own site lists 17 aircraft with the USAF. Joe Baughers well known and respected US military aircraft database only lists 13 CV-22's contracted for through to FY10, including the prototype and one already lost. These are already spread between three units and bases, with one training unit and two frontline SOS's. Even though I realise the USAF has a requirement for upto 50 CV-22's it still seems very early to stand up another unit, however much I'd like to see these flying around Suffolk.

CV-22's are due here early next year to stand up as a squadron.

Have been told by some NAVAIR and Boeing people that the Ospreys probably won't arrive at Mildenhall until late 2012, but it will be a full squadron of eight CV-22s.
