Potential RAF Typhoon Tranche 4 Order - 25 Aircraft
Re: Potential RAF Typhoon Tranche 4 Order - 25 Aircraft
Just my opinion, but i think the present government will just stick with what we have already have and ordered! Personally, it also wouldn’t surprise me if the UK pulled out/scaled back in the “Tempest programme” stating that the money would be better spent elsewhere!! Also, having relatives that live in Portsmouth, there are rumours circulating there, that one of our carriers will be “mothballed” for up to two years in order to save money on both the carrier and crew etc! Genuinely hope that is not the case, as it would make the UK look militarily weak at a time when we should be the exact opposite!! However, this government has made so many odd decisions since coming into power, nothing would surprise me at present!,
Re: Potential RAF Typhoon Tranche 4 Order - 25 Aircraft
This government cannot fix 14 years of failed policy making in just six months, they have been handed the cards they have been dealt, so if they have to mothball a carrier, so be it. We can only use one at a time anyway, we don't enough ships or aircraft or personnel to give both ships an air wing. Read ZM152's accident report and you will see how bad the UK carrier situation is. We would be better off scrapping both ships at this point.
You want the Aladeen news, or the Aladeen news?
Re: Potential RAF Typhoon Tranche 4 Order - 25 Aircraft
Scrapping the carriers is I but extreme but could we see an option where we share one of them with the US Marines or even Australia. OK I know the Ozzie's don't have F-35B but a combined navy carrier force stationed closer to the China Sea might be very appealing.
Re: Potential RAF Typhoon Tranche 4 Order - 25 Aircraft
I would rather we never had the carriers in the first place, no F-35Bs but we had F-35As and tankers that could refuel them along with all the other American types we currently operate.
Re: Potential RAF Typhoon Tranche 4 Order - 25 Aircraft
Wonders what Labour will do with both the Carriers... Given that they ordered them back in 2007.
Re: Potential RAF Typhoon Tranche 4 Order - 25 Aircraft
Yes we had Blair and Brown looking after our interests, and they did a sterling job didn’t they!!
Re: Potential RAF Typhoon Tranche 4 Order - 25 Aircraft
Well I'm no fan of any shower in charge (it could be worse I suppose) But we did sign all 3 Tranche Contracts for Typhoon, ordered the leased then bought outright and added more C-17s (Voyager and Atlas were probably confirmed in there somewhere... But they did can Sea Harrier...... and discuss the rest...

When the typhoon was first being developed they mentioned the ej200 engines would also be upgraded in 2 stages. Does anyone know why that never progressed. Surely with all the upgrades better engines would be a good option.

With the POTUS treatment of Ukraine over the last couple of wèeks can the US be trusted to provide the support necessary to operate the F35B .At least with a Typhoon order we would have control of the support of the aircraft, plus it would keep the UK's factory's working for its replacement.
