Origin of stickers on NASA Harrier 719?

Post by Shawfarm » Sun Aug 18, 2024 9:37 am

This aircraft has carried two stickers on the engine intake areas for a good many years. On the port side the sticker states “Thank God I’m British” and on the starboard side the sticker states “British to the bone”. I photographed this aircraft in 1995 at Moffett Field with these in-situ and images from the 1980s also show them, as does images from the early 2000s. There must be an interesting story to their presence, given the longevity that they have. I have tried to discover from various online sources what lies behind their presence but without any success. If anyone can explain the backstory to them, that would be really helpful.
I believe this aircraft is now locate at the USMC museum at Miramar.

Not sure sure that answers the sticker question, NASA 704 and 716 were also in that batch of Harriers XW644 to XW655, all built for the USMC.

No, but is a potential starting point for further investigation into their origin.
