And a really nice guy as well. Always had time for us mad spotters and I heard for his students and others in his Sqn as well. We had some great days on bleak hills thanks to him.

Proper legend. If you spoke to any pilot around that time RAF or Navy and said do you know Schwabby they not only knew him but they all had great tales about him to share as well.

I was down Sth Wales once prob for an ex and I heard Schwabby call Cardiff on the radio and request a low app, I couldnt hear the reply but then Schwabby said cleared app conventional or otherwise. When I spoke to him again I mentioned it and he said it was a 2 seater and the student was about to get chopped, it was his last chance and he was nervous. So Schwabby took him to Cardiff and did a super low fly by and epic climb out to calm his nerves! He passed when the check ride started. He said thats why the students call me Father Christmas I always find a way to pull them through.

I still get Meatloaf on the original link I quoted. The new link works fine for me though.
