Looks like [AE0655] as 58-0084 out of Pittsburg would have been supporting this incident, after a quick look on ACARs and can’t see anything re callsign or mission code quite yet but looks to be right place right time!
Re: Another shoot down, this time Alaska
...and another, though according to the beeb website the USAF now seem to be flying F-16s with Polish markings....(well one jet plane looks much like another, right?)

I was for some reason expecting to hear that they had shot down the Ball from the Super Bowl Yesterday but could a player have kicked it that high?

An interstellar message received by NASA from the planet Zog.
"We send you envoys to bring peace, goodwill and friendship, but you keep shooting them down"!

Re: Another shoot down, this time Alaska

I'm waiting for the headline "They shot down Grandad's ashes! "
Is the writing on the wall for the companies who send our ashes into "space" ? "Space" being a rather loose term.
The image above shows a high altitude balloon which crossed the country last autumn.
It was tracked using DF18 and reached well over 60,000 ft .
These things are NOTAM'd every day as "Met " balloons so no-one takes notice of them or , any imposters.
On this day it was only 30 mins or so before BLACK01 launched and could well have crossed the track of the balloon if on a NOROPS mission.
At least Nic Pope doesn't think its an alien invasion ! Well , there's a first

Re: Another shoot down, this time Alaska (OT)
Bev's (aka COAA/PlanePlotter) Sonde Monitor has been very useful for tracking these for years.
When you locate the landing/crashing spot with the app, there is a very useful transmitter :-)

From 'Defense One':
The three objects that U.S. fighter jets downed over the United States and Canada last weekend were “most likely balloons tied to private companies, recreation, or research institutions, studying weather, or conducting other scientific research,” U.S. President Joe Biden said on Thursday.
“We're now just seeing more…partially because of the steps we've taken to increase our radars…and we have to keep adapting our approach…to dealing with these challenges,” Biden told reporters at the White House.. “I'll be sharing with Congress on these classified policy parameters when they're completed, and they'll remain classified so we don't give a roadmap to our enemies to try to evade our defenses.”

Re: Another shoot down, this time Alaska
As 100arw suggests , perhaps the authorities should invest in Bev's Sonde Monitor sw , could save some rather embarrassing situations.
This tethered one should really clutter up the radar!

Another balloon-like object reported to the west of Hawaii. Sighted by multiple airliner pilots.
