January 25, 2023
UTICA, NY - JETNET, a leading provider of aviation data and market intelligence, announced today that it acquired ADS-B Exchange, one of the world’s largest networks of ADS-B/Mode S/MLAT feeders and providers of real-time and historical flight data. The acquisition is the second of what the company anticipates will be several future acquisitions as JETNET expands its data-driven product offerings for the aviation industry.

Founded in 2016 by Dan Streufert, ADS-B Exchange aggregates approximately 750,000 messages per second worldwide via receivers hosted by aviation enthusiasts around the world. The acquisition of ADS-B Exchange will enable JETNET to expand its flight data solutions with real-time information.

“ADS-B Exchange was founded as the go-to resource for aviation and flight-data enthusiasts,” said Dan Streufert, President and Founder of ADS-B Exchange. “Joining forces with JETNET is the perfect match as we look to meet the business needs of our users while maintaining our enthusiast roots and unfiltered data. With a long history of providing highly valuable data to the aviation industry, JETNET offers the resources we need to accelerate our growth.”

Like JETNET, ADS-B Exchange serves numerous constituents across the aviation industry, including Maintenance, Repair, Overhaul (MRO), airport operations, and aircraft leasing. In addition, its real-time data is used by dozens of commercial customers across numerous end markets, including aerospace & defense, government, research/academic, and financial services.

“We are committed to providing our customers with innovative product offerings which provide the information and intelligence they rely on to make critical business decisions,” said JETNET CEO Derek Swaim. “We’ve long admired ADS-B Exchange and know how strategic the company’s real-time data offerings are to the aviation industry. Dan has done an incredible job building a fast-growing business that customers love. We believe he, and the ADS-B Exchange platform, will bring significant value to our customers.”

Obviously in the short term it means no change (other than there are a LOT of feeders pulling the plug on their feed clients) but long term will we still see unfiltered data? Possibly/probably not.

There's a couple of replacements mentioned, none of them are good.

I would imagine it will change…the owner has sold out the platform which solely relied on data being submitted for free

Folks switching off upload servers… :'(

Up in the air at the moment, TBG is just waiting for things to settle down as he knows just as little as the rest of us.

Well I guess that'll mean the military side of thing will be subscription only then. I've been getting messages to donate for weeks now and was wondering what was going on.

That would be more of a loss than ADSBX, other similar sites exist to cover whatever comes of the tracking side, The Bald Geek is unique and many of the data sets are not shared anywhere else. Big Loss that will be.

To be honest, more military does still show on other free sites like FR24 and Planefinder than most people say. There is still filtering, of course, but the worst hit types are private jets.

Private equity investment never ends well. These guys only come in to build it up to make a profit and sell it (or pocket some hefty returns). Shame, as I stopped using 360 and stuck with ADSB. I'm guessing at some point it will be sub only (or they will stick a load more adverts over the site), time will tell........
Cheers,

Interesting development.
Of course PlanePlotter remains a private network , no ads , no blocking , just data , including Mode A/C and "the" place to go for mil enthusiasts.

Does Planeplotter come with military coverage or does one still have to pay a subscription for it?

I'm currently getting full military and civil coverage right now with everything looking absolutely normal. How long for is, of course, another matter...

No plug pulling just yet. June, when the hosting contract is up, maybe.

You have to pay. You also have to have a Windows computer to run it.

PlanePlotter has a single one off payment of 25 Euros* licence fee after that if you supply the correct type of data via your receiver , Mode - S and Mode A/C mil traffic info is free , if you can't do that then there is a fee of just 12 Euros* a year to see mil stuff.

*Plus Tax

The more sharers we have , the better the coverage. :thumb:

By my count somewhere between 1500 and 2000 feeders have stopped sharing since the news was announced.

There is a mobile app you can sideload onto Android for £10.
