Best display at a Grand Prix was at Brands Hatch back in the day. A Harrier GR3 with an ex Red Arrows pilot beat the place up superbly, below the height of South Bank if you know it. Then cleared off, and everyone thought that was the end, but returned unannounced in a massive burst of speed, vertical turn along bottom straight very, very low and fast, then hovered over South Bank blowing programmes etc., everywhere before landing on a pad at Clearways. Just remembered the driver's name. Dudley Carvell. Spectacular and very naughty. Slipstream caused damage to Racing Transporters and Awnings.

Quite surprised by some of the comments on here, surely air displays being lost is a bad thing ? Anyway Silverstone is exempt so we'll still see the Reds.

From a tv prospective aircraft wont be missed but for soectators at a race it will be missed. It all adds to the atmosphere of the weekend.
Re: F1 to remove military aviation displays from races
Thing is, whatever the thoughts of the aviation enthusiast, F1 as a brand and with the huge automotive giants influence has a want and need to promote itself as environmentally responsible and future looking. The automotive giants want to promote their hybrid and electric vehicles and technology ad they choose and pay a through their F1 teams to do that. F1 wants to appeal to a younger more environmentally aware audience. In reality big "gas guzzling" military display teams and jets go against this and will attract negative comment.
As an aside, I was at Silverstone a few years back for the World Endurance Championship weekend. On race day a Tornado Flypast happened. As I was sat in a covered grandstand I heard it but didn't see it! An airshow is a better place to see an air display...........

Exactly this, and many more airshows and flying display events will be under threat in the next few years as sustainability becomes a core concern for event organisers.
