Glasgow - COP26 / UN Conference
Glasgow - COP26 / UN Conference
With the Japanese B777 just completing its standard proving flight to Glasgow, (Edinburgh and Prestwick were also visited) might this be a good time to ask what information has been published about COP26 and the UN Climate Conference. Have any of the local spotters heard rumours of visiting VIP / head of state that will be arriving ? Expect the usual police operation in and around Glasgow and the conference centre for the expected protest groups. Have any restrictions been notified for around the airports ?
The COP26 appears to be running from 31st October till 12th November with the big event UN Conference on the 6th November.
The article in the Scotsman newspaper suggest Joe Biden will be attending. But when ?

Re: Glasgow - COP26 / UN Conference
Without wishing to start a debate(or maybe we should in the off topic section) a conference about climate change and Japan fly a 777 all the way to the UK just so the pilots can get a feel for the airport's,seems a little out of sorts with the idea
Note I do not advocate that aviation should cease as some of the extremeists on this topic would like, but could this have not been done when they were in the UK earlier in the year ?

Wait till POTUS comes over with all his support! That will be a laughing stock for a climate change summit! Bit on the news yesterday apparently they are looking at approx 15,000 in the Glasgow area for this. Will be including extra police ,Broadcast crews ,the tea lady and heaven knows what else With all the fuel/exhaust gases etc its going to be a great example for energy saving.

Stolen from elsewhere...
Anyway, on topic - I've been told (from admittedly not a particularly reliable source) POTUS is not attending in person.
Hmmmm, diesel generators to recharge Teslas overnight. And the Teslas are being bought and flown in from the USA because they aren't on sale in the UK yet.twiterati wrote: COP coming to Glasgow. Leaders staying at Gleneagles Hotel & 20Tesla cars (£100K each) bought to ferry them 75km back & forth. Gleneagles has 1 Tesla charging station, so Malcolm Plant Hire contracted to supply Diesel Generators to recharge Tesla’s overnight.

Re: Glasgow - COP26 / UN Conference
Potus and the Queen are seemingly staying in Edinburgh during the conference so how many Helicopters will fly between the 2 cities every day as they won’t slum it on the mate
Re: Glasgow - COP26 / UN Conference
Did the 777 land somewhere in the UK, as there were numerous Japanese military at the Electronic Warfare conference I attended this week in Liverpool?

1st Rule of the Electronic Warfare conference is.....?
In this world there's two kinds of people, my friend. Those with loaded guns, and those who dig. You dig.
Re: Glasgow - COP26 / UN Conference
It did a touch & go at Edinburgh before landing, 3 at Prestwick & then another 3 at Glasgow before landing. It came directly from Japan so those at Liverpool arrived by some other means of travel.
Re: Glasgow - COP26 / UN Conference
There's a strong rumour on Scotavnet that 3 Typhoons will be based at Leuchars for QRA duties during the conference.......................
Re: Glasgow - COP26 / UN Conference
Speaking to some of the locals at Prestwick a few weeks ago, there will be no access by car anywhere near to the mound etc, but you will be able to walk in there. I think it was a similar arrangement when the day-glo turd visited Turnberry.

Will be interesting to see what happens, who arrives where etc, I imagine we'll see the VIPs in Edinburgh (if the people mentioned turn up?) transiting by Helicopter but who knows.
Re: Glasgow - COP26 / UN Conference
Thank you Mike.
Check out the AOC website. You may see your photo if you attended :-)

Re: Glasgow - COP26 / UN Conference
I have heard the Aussie PM has confirmed he is now attending and I have also read elsewhere up to 100 heads of state are planning on attending too at some stage, though as the event is over a couple of weeks and of course some will come on commercial flights.

This is correct mound by foot/blke only same set up as during the G8 , though the airport have said they would like to open up the car park there between 0800-1700 ,for anyone interested
Re: Glasgow - COP26 / UN Conference
For anyone thinking of travelling for COP26 spotting be advised.
There are NO Hotel Rooms available in Glasgow and the surrounding area.
As of last week the main COP26 website said there was limited accomodation left in Edinburgh also.
Air BnB rents are ranging from £1000 to nearly £10000 per night.
They are expecting up to 20,000 delegates for the event.
There are also expected to be up to 10,000 police deployed.
Environmental activists and protesters (numbers unknown) are expected to attend.
