Re: F-117s
There's a bit in the latest AFM that I noticed when flicking through today about the F-117s as well.

Night mission in NTTR, F-117 with engine failure
Not sure if this is the pair that are at Fresno earlier this week.

Re: F-117s
A head on landing shot I saw on Twitter earlier clearly showed one to be 841.

811 is the other.

Re: F-117s
Hi All.
88-0841 was at Mildenhall show 27/05/2000.
I still need 84-0811.
Over their service life(old time) I managed to see 24 in the UK/Europe with another 4 in USA.
Has anyone ever worked out how many have visited this side of the pond for shows/TDYs that you could see(Gilze etc).
Not including the ones used out of Ramstein in 1994.
Le Bourget 23/6/1991 85-0830
Nellis 15/9/1992 79-10780
Eindhoven 03/7/1993 84-0812 86-0823
Gilze 03/7/1993 83-0807 86-0839 there were 6 I believe on the TDY?
Lakenheath 11/7/1993 85-0814 85-0817 85-0829 85-0832 85-0834 85-0842 plus 90% of Europe's spotters and snappers!
Mildenhall 24/5/1996 81-10797 84-0809
Mildenhall 24/5/1997 85-0819
Fairford 19/7/1997 85-0835
Wright Patt 03/5/2000 79-10781
Mildenhall 27/5/2000 81-10793 88-0841
Pt Magu 01/4/2001 84-0826
Cottesmore 29/7/2001 86-0821
Fairford 21/7/2002 80-0791 88-0843
Fairford 18/7/2004 80-0787 83-0808
Fairford 14/7/2007 80-0788 84-0825
Palmdale 15/10/2010 79-10783(isn't this one a composite?)

Re: F-117s
adderman,
Not a bad score. Rare old beasts but I think it’s pretty pointless working out how many people could see in Europe when a lot of spotters on FC will have chased them in the States too.

Re: F-117s
Where are the serials on the aircraft? There does not appear a serial on the tail, only the TR code in white or red, have not noticed one on the inside of the nose gear door, is it on the outside?
Just seen a picture on Twitter, 841 is painted on front edge of the inside of I think the bomb bay doors or the inner u/c doors.these had been lowered to remove a travel pod.this cannot be seen whilst aircraft is taxiing as this door is up.

Re: F-117s
I Caught 12 transitting back from the Bosnian Conflict at Spangdahlem in 1999/2000 if I remember correctly, had no idea they were even on the airfield when we rocked up that morning! The story of the day was we arrived and about and hour or so later the Frecce Tricolori recovered into Spang, couple of hours later we hear start ups and count them thinking its going to be based SP jets finally starting the days flying,oh fudge 12 start ups must be the Frecce getting ready to depart! Low and behold what appears coming up the sloping taxiway but 12 F-117`s......oh to have taken pictures that day!
Re: F-117s
To read the serial you have to catch the jet nose on. The 'last three' are, and have always been on the nose wheel leg in a vertical configuration.

Re: F-117s
As can be seen from older photos, the serial was always displayed in a pretty standard format on the vertical stabiliser (or sort-of vertical!) (and sort-of stabiliser if the stories about the instability of the jet in the early days are to be believed!). The "TR" lettering seems a lot larger than previous versions I have seen when they were "HO" or "ED" marked.
