Lancaster departure from Duxford
Lancaster departure from Duxford
With ARCo looking after PA474 at Duxford for the best part of 9 months, it is soon to be time for her to leave after her maintenance and head back to RAF Coningsby.
Several engine runs have been completed and to the best of my knowledge, nothing has gone drastically wrong.
With airshow appearances lined up in the next few weeks, it can’t be too long until she departs Duxford.
Some are even speculating that it will be tomorrow. Anyone have any further information?

Re: Lancaster departure from Duxford
I don't have any info, but it seems over the past few years the Lanc has spent more time at Duxford than it has CBY.
Has anyone kept a log of when it was at which location?

I suppose they are quite rightly being extra careful with her. That engine fire a few years ago kind of demonstrates it doesn't take much to end badly.
I still love seen nig her fly as much now as the first time all those years ago. ( too many to risk counting...
)
Such a sound....

Re: Lancaster departure from Duxford
Regarding the work Arco are doing on the Lanc , dIdnt St Athan RAF, Do maintenance on all RAF aircraft ? just a query regarding the amount of servicing the RAF engineers now do? Rob
Re: Lancaster departure from Duxford
Back in the good old days of all the RAF (mostly) doing all its own aircraft maintenance. it was split between St Athan, Abingdon and Kemble. (till the mid 80s). They did often have to resort to a workparty from the original manufacturer sometime
Re: Lancaster departure from Duxford
The RAF has no in house "depth" maintenance capability now, it's all outstourced to industry.
Re: Lancaster departure from Duxford
And when it comes to the BBMF, it makes a lot of sense to put it out to tender to people who work with historics day to day. ARCo and Biggin Hill Heritage Hangar have both recently conducted depth maintenance on the fleet.

Also what I heard. If it’s going to be any time in the next week it has to be today as the wind looks much too high the other days. Right on the crosswind limits today I think, about 9 knots or so.Adam Palmer wrote: ↑Fri Aug 20, 2021 9:17 pmShe was due to depart today but cancelled due to paper work being incomplete.
