Kabul - USAF C-17 - 02-1109

Post by Yammer » Mon Aug 16, 2021 10:12 am

This short video is almost beyond belief - the runway is obviously not secured. I hope our guys who just gone in and able to get out.

Wouldn`t want to be that crew trying to make the call on departing with that going on around

I could be wrong, but you can usually see through the glass on C-17 windows - those look black and don't shine like glass - could it be a fake video? Something about that C-17 does not look right.

That would be some great CGI, but sadly it isn't, not sure why you'd fake something like that either, could be something to protect from the sun.

Seeing footage from the airport over the last 24 hours there is no doubt that it is a desperate situation on the ground with people trying to escape the country. The one thing I'm struggling to grasp with this clip though is that people running both in front of, and behind, the engines and seem unaffected by jet blast considering the the aircraft appears to be taxying at pace?

Just my thoughts anyway.

BECAUSE TYPING IN LOWER CASE WOULD BE EASY.............

C-17s are designed to NOT ingest crap in to the engine - part of their ability to operate from austere/unprepared locations.

Apparently the US have suspended operations until they gain control of the wider airport.

Indeed. Horrible situation for them, but no one can blame them at all for making the decision they did.

To follow what EGVP said, they’ll probably be not much more than idle power too whilst taxiing in a straight line. Relatively “safe” at both ends until the engine accelerates.

Some videos going around showing those people falling, Such a shame what has happened and what's going to happen in the next few days.

Some sites are reporting that a C17 had 800 Pax .That must be some kind of record.

Probably taken over by the Taliban (they've already secured some). Either that or potentially destroyed
