Re: Canadian Hornets in Europe question
Covid-19 has been a factor for over a year now so it seems a strange reason to cancel ( if they have?) anything.
Re: Canadian Hornets in Europe question
Levels in Lincs have become worrying. ULHT have banned all visitors at their hospitals as a result.

Re: Canadian Hornets in Europe question
I think there are two theories
a) transiting through
b) staying to commemorate WW2 operations?

Re: Canadian Hornets in Europe question
Or as some seem to think ... over the top to Ramstein!
... Just SO much speculation and NO facts.
Ex: 24/30/70/72/84/101 & 230 Squadrons .... 38 years of military aviation

Re: Canadian Hornets in Europe question
We are only in the message section so intelligent speculation and opinions are welcome but I won't be going anywhere until they are on the ground or a support flight arrives
Re: Canadian Hornets in Europe question
For avoidance of doubt and to sadly squash speculation, the deployment is a continuation of the Canadian's commitment to Enhanced Air Policing in the Black Sea.
If you look back, they've deployed around this time in 5 of the last 7 years so nothing new or no surprises.
Waddington was the only red herring as historically they've opted for Germany or Prestwick for their stop over.
It also explains why a number of shows mid-late August and September occasionally benefit from the Canadian's presence in Europe. This year Ostrava seem to tick that box.

Re: Canadian Hornets in Europe question
As per my previous post stating that they would not transit through Waddington. I cannot give you a reason why they were coming through Waddington (Which they had earlier confirmed to me), and now are not, or exactly where they are going in Europe. All I can say is that I was in touch with the PAO at 1 CAD and he advised me on Thursday 12th that plans had changed and that they would no longer be coming through Waddo. That's all I know.

Re: Canadian Hornets in Europe question
It was intended to be a nod of respect in the squadron's 80th anniversary year (409 Nighthawk Squadron, formed at nearby RAF Digby in 1941).
UK COVID restrictions were the cause of the change of plans. As has been suggested above, they will now route via Ramstein instead.

Re: Canadian Hornets in Europe question
The original plan was the first 3 plus C-130 arrived Waddington 1900L on friday, with the 2nd three plus C-130 Monday some point, not sure if the days/arrival times will stay around the same?
Re: Canadian Hornets in Europe question
At the moment it seems the first 3 Hornets will arrive at Ramstein at 23.00 local time on Friday
