Hawk T1 Out of Service Date announced

Post by David Thompson » Thu Jul 08, 2021 5:24 pm

I understand that the Hawk T1 OSD of 31 March 2022 was announced in Parliament today as well as every operating unit .
I can't find any official press release nor Hansard report nor confirmation of the Red Arrows being included too ?
Confirmation or otherwise would be appreciated .

This article confirms the Hawk OSD March 2022, but does say that the Red Arrows are not affected and will keep their T1' until 2030.

The workforce at T.1 units were informed of the new OSD this afternoon. Not a great surprise, rumours have been circulating for a couple of weeks. No more black fleet aircraft will enter depth maintenance at Valley after those present are returned to their bases. No information as to where the Reds will be maintained in the future or the reduce to produce process will take place. Reds will continue to fly after 31 March next year until 2030 but all plans are subject to change.

I assume this includes FAA too ? I think 736 were/are about to disband anyway.

30 September 2021 was the last date I saw for 736 NAS to disband.

Will this leave Leeming with nothing or are there plans to re-equip 100Squadron?

Not quite, there will, of course be the QEAF Hawk T2's (167's) based there as well as the various UAS Grobs.

T1's will not be replaced. Current roles will be Absorbed by Synthetic training & most likely Draken when the axe swings.

And the Royal Navy Hawks. What will replace them in their role?

736 squadron is due to disband end of September this year, and it was planned for 100 Sqn RAF to take on the role until Hawk retirement.
