LAGR and QID callsigns
Re: LAGR and QID callsigns
I am also glad someone asked as I had been wondering about it.
Re: LAGR and QID callsigns
....far too much exitement on this thread.
Re: LAGR and QID callsigns

With all due respect to everyone on here, I don't think anyone is getting 'excited' about it - I have seen others ask questions elsewhere without getting an answer, so i thought I'd ask it myself as I'm sure I'm not the only one with the query.
I'm not aware of any other callsigns changing recently, like Marham for example as I generally follow tracking sites and not radio transmission.
Anyway, as you were...
Re: LAGR and QID callsigns
LAGR was used during the transfer from/to Souda for exercise Iniochos.
During the exercise QID was used.
Hope it helps somebody

Re: LAGR and QID callsigns
Possibly as Mildenhall aircraft have predominantly almost exclusively used Quid for a long period of time, and suddenly they start using a fresh call sign as well as quid, people bound to wonder why.
Marham is no comparison or relevance.
Re: LAGR and QID callsigns
Slightly off topic, but saw one the other day for a E4B. If you are a Star Wars fan you will understand. ORDER 66
Re: LAGR and QID callsigns
Here's an idea. Call the sq and ask them and ask for the spelling as well. As its Quid or Qid and Lagr, Larga, Larger
Re: LAGR and QID callsigns
It's Lager

Agreed, perfectly reasonable question to ask.Finty wrote: ↑Tue Apr 27, 2021 11:48 amNo ones getting excitable, this is a forum where people can ask questions, is it not? They’re probably just wondering why it’s only been used fairly recently.EGVP wrote: ↑Tue Apr 27, 2021 9:35 amIt may just be a second callsign for the 100th ARW, I'm not sure why everyone is getting so excitable over it.martin condon wrote: ↑Tue Apr 27, 2021 9:33 amI believe it is for tanker flight going out to the eastern bloc to meet up with the 48th FW aircraft on TDY there, but I could be wrong.

Re: LAGR and QID callsigns
So after all this no answer really!?
But while we are here what is the origin of QID/QUID?
LAGR/LAGAR you kind of get, but QID?

Re: LAGR and QID callsigns
Davie - bear in mind its not "QID" which could sound like "KID" - but QUID - a whole new generation might grow up thinking its "QID"

Re: LAGR and QID callsigns
Presumably, 'Quid' was used by the 240th CEF, until Feb 1971...?

Nice decimalisation joke for the teenagers there!

Re: LAGR and QID callsigns
Quite a few Americans I've spoken with over the years don't realise that Quid is both the singular and the plural, so say something costs "20 quids" etc.

Re: LAGR and QID callsigns
Use of the "QID/QUID" c/s for Mildenhall tankers predates the Feb'92 activation of the 100thARW at Mildenhall by some years. It was first assigned in the late 80's to Mildenhall's then resident 306th Strategic Wing, which had SAC KC-135's attached to it on TDY from their US bases. When the 100th replaced the 306th in Feb'92 they kept the c/s.
