Air bases blocked on google satellite view

Post by Raski » Wed Sep 16, 2020 2:25 pm

Anyone noticed that air bases are being blurred out on google satellite view? I was looking at Souda Bay just a couple of weeks back and it was all visible. Today it's all been blurred out, including some facility just to the SE of the airport and nearly all of the northern coastline in the bay just to the south.

I wonder how long it will be until others start getting the same treatment. :'(

Maybe related to the increased tension between Greece and Turkey at this moment, ie maybe a request/demand from Greek Govt. Maybe.

French air bases are also pixelated - even the museum at Chateaudun is fizzed out

And it's just the latest images for France and Greece, is it not? Earlier images are unaffected.

Just use Google Earth if you can, and use the historical imagery option.

Souda Bay has been pixelated out along with everything other military installation in Greece for a couple of years now. I think you must’ve inadvertently selected the historical option if you saw it only a few weeks ago. The area to the South of the base is a large Naval facility used by Greece, the USN and NATO. It’s the only facility in Europe capable of docking a CVN. Along the North coast is the NATO missile firing installation https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/NATO_Mi ... stallation

Thought that myself after I posted. Turns out the article I was referring to was talking about maintenance facilities, which are seemingly limited to only 3 places outwith the US, these being Souda, Dubai and Yokohama.

Hmm strangely enough Likes of Michael AAF (Dugway), Groom Lake, TTR are not pixelated out bar one Janet flight 737 parked next to another Janet on Groom‘s ramp. But Casement Aerodrome , Baldonnel is only blurred on google earth Street view but not on top. Likewise Belgian Luchtmacht Bases Koksijde And Kleine-Brogel are pixelated out.

South of the border Istres is heavily pixelated out ...

Dutch bases are clear ..

Cheers

Souda Bay is still visible on Bing maps and has an E-4 on a taxiway.its a great place for photography of Greek a/c, as long as you’re sat on a cruise ship alongside. That said the Commonwealth Cemetery is well worth a visit.

Well, the problems with displaying the surface from the satellite cause, as far as I know, two problems: the placement of classified objects and insufficient satellite coverage. If the first is politics and you can't go anywhere, then the second can be solved. Nowadays, various aerospace companies are developing that will be able to develop new vehicles, provide high-quality Internet coverage and access to maps. Recently, I have been watching with interest the company https://www.skyrora.com/ - this is a newcomer in the field of space exploration, but the company has prospects. The main thing is not to be afraid to compete with leaders. The space is huge - enough for everyone.
