Re: Red Arrows New Base?
That’ll probably be the kiss of death for future Exercises at Waddo, transfer them to Coningsby, as for the ISTAR residents I wonder who’ll have priority, them or the Reds

Re: Red Arrows New Base?
The only feasible option. Leeming and Wittering too close to A1 for safety reasons.
Re: Red Arrows New Base?
I wouldn't be surprised if the WAVE has to close, because of the display regulations.
Re: Red Arrows New Base?
The Wave owner is rather pleased about the news, and is apparently being interviewed today for local radio.
It hasn't been an issue when the Reds have practiced at Waddington before, or when the ACPV get's its Typhoon displays, its not really any different to the viewing at Scampton either, both official and unofficial.

Re: Red Arrows New Base?
They won’t be practising over Waddington.
Never trust a grown man with a nickname
Re: Red Arrows New Base?
The problem maybe that they will be practising on the WAVE side of the airfield, at Scampton the viewing area is to the South of their display area. Where will they be practising? If Scampton is going to be used for housing they will not be allowed to practise there. Note that when they have normally carried off base practises, the MOD police have moved people on the side of the airfield they are displaying over. I hope the WAVE stays.

Re: Red Arrows New Base?
Defence minister's quote from BBC website:
"I am delighted that they will be able to continue to practice their extraordinary aerobatic talents above RAF Scampton in their home county of Lincolnshire."

Re: Red Arrows New Base?
They will still practice over Scampton.
It only becomes an issue if/When Scampton gets re developed.
If, they only build houses east of the current hangars, then it would be no different practicing there as it would be practicing at Waddo. I think they will only need to practice at Waddo should the housing development move on to the airfield.
My comments earlier were in regards to if they end up practicing at Waddo.

Re: Red Arrows New Base?
The 1, 2 or sometimes zero daily movements of said fleet should be easy to plan around the Reds. Sentinels are also going by the time the Reds get there.
Re: Red Arrows New Base?
Please correct me, WAVE was open during Waddo airshows?? I have been known to be right but not often

Lot s of room now for speculative posts.

Re: Red Arrows New Base?
Wave was shut during air show days them selves.
They were on occasion allowed to open up on Arrival/Departure days, but this may have only been for one or two years.

Re: Red Arrows New Base?
The WAVE was not allowed to open on the Saturday or Sunday of airshow weekends.
Re: Red Arrows New Base?
I think the bigger problem at Wittering, and to an extent Leeming, is the volume of home based traffic.romeo bravo wrote: ↑Tue May 19, 2020 8:06 amThe only feasible option. Leeming and Wittering too close to A1 for safety reasons.
Wittering circuit is busy all day. The Reds would preclude any flying training there.
Re: Red Arrows New Base?
and dont forget the new Lincoln bypass which runs south to north of the Airfield and joins the A15 plus you have Canwick and Branston /washingborough/ Heighington Villages all to the south of RWY 20 at waddington

Re: Red Arrows New Base?
So it’s nice to see the reds remain in the same region, which must help the families and others who currently live close to Scampton. However based on the defence ministers comment that the reds will still practice over Scampton, then why not keep it open, and close another base instead? Once they decided the reds had to share, why move them out instead of moving someone else in? Why not close Leeming and move their assets to Scampton, meaning all the Hawks in 1 location, and the aggressors closer to Coningsby and the Lincolnshire ranges, and Scampton actually used properly?
Re: Red Arrows New Base?
Because the infrastructure at Scampton can barely support what's there, let alone adding anything else, hence why RAFAT needed to move...
Re: Red Arrows New Base?
So all this palaver to move to Waddington, and then in 2030 the Hawk T.Mk.1 goes out of service.
Would have been a perfect opportunity now to just disband RAFAT and be done with it.
