What's with all tonight's military air traffic - all ideas welcome
Re: What's with all tonight's military air traffic - all ideas welcome
Planned to be another 60 launched tomorrow. We may see the rocket overhead 20 minutes after launch.
We may see 60 satellites very close together or even see them being launched from said rocket.
No idea on times, will post if I find out.

Should be good, believe launch is planned for Thursday 23rd.
That sky full that we saw on Sunday was probably shortly after the last launch, after they had been released to orbit.

It's been brought forward a day due to weather in the US. Plan is to launch at 15.37 local, which puts it at 20.37 BST.

Cheers for the info and update Mike.
Any idea of where to look in the sky approx 20 minutes after launch to see if we can indeed see anything? My kids would be interested in this.
Thanks.

I've not managed to find any more details yet, Its being Launched from Kennedy Space Center in Florida, so would expect it to come from the west/ south west as that seems to be the routing of all of these starlinks, providing it comes this far north.
Keep a look on https://www.facebook.com/VirtualAstro/, they've been pretty good last few days.

With no ISS flyovers predicted, just had what must have been Skytrain 7 overhead, west to east at circa 20.54.
Guess satellite release on second orbit.

Having watched the live feed of the launch, I also managed to get visual with it as it tracked off to the east approx. 20:52. First time I've witnessed a space vehicle so soon after launch
Re: What's with all tonight's military air traffic - all ideas welcome
Watched the launch on the SpaceX You-tube channel, then into the back garden to watch it pass overhead 20 minutes later. The satellites were already released by the time it passed over us (visible through binocs).
Re: What's with all tonight's military air traffic - all ideas welcome
Hopefully we'll get to see it over the coming days as they spread out a little, not sure the location and timings will suit us this time though, especially with the days getting longer.

Looked just like a brighter than normal satellite until you got the binos out - it was obviously in the very early stages of the deployment but looked most strange, there were some quite separate elements to the cluster all going along in perfect formation. Never seen anything like it. Need to find out what, if anything, will be visible over UK tonight. Great way to break up the evening.
Re: What's with all tonight's military air traffic - all ideas welcome
The cluster from last nights launch will pass over the south west of the UK again tonight, rising at 20:52 and setting in the east at 21:01 with a magnitude of 0.7. In theory, this should look a lot like it did yesterday evening.DavieB wrote: ↑Thu Apr 23, 2020 7:44 amLooked just like a brighter than normal satellite until you got the binos out - it was obviously in the very early stages of the deployment but looked most strange, there were some quite separate elements to the cluster all going along in perfect formation. Re: What's with all tonight's military air traffic - all ideas welcome
Yea starlink 5 should pass over at that time.
Starlink 6 (launched last night) May be viewable as a string of pearls at 9pm and 10.30pm to the south.

Very interesting this thread, thank you for all the information.
Not sure what people’s thoughts are and I know it’s not military but is there a possibility of a mod / admin setting up a section dedicated to satellite ott’s and rocket launches?
I would find it useful, just my thoughts.

Make the most of them, as the Sun newspaper is saying Starlink are going to turn the lights down! as they are causing panic among the populace.
I presume they are arranging to turn the sun off?
