Wow, that's terrible.

As mentioned the weather was atrocious, and it certainly seems like he was too fast and his RoD was as well.

Very dramatic, and extremely sad. RIP to all who died.

Difficult to tell but was it landing with wings swept (technical issue?)? That might account for the seemingly high landing speed.

Defiantly to fast and to hard a landing in my opinion. If you slow the video at 1 min 23 sec in the fire it looks like the wings are forward. Just my thoughts. RIP though .A gutsy landing in white conditions

Absolutely horrible crash - but it makes you wonder - shouldn't the undercarriage legs be weaker than the fuselage? One would have hoped the shock absorbed by the crumpled legs might have cushioned the airframe and left it intact... but what do I know. Seems a bit ghoulish discussing such things when lives have been lost I suppose.

Always one to explore the other angles, what the hell was the guy filming it doing out there in such appalling conditions? He clearly had no idea when it would appear, hence the first half the film showing a snow-scene!
I am sure the rate of descent & airspeed were clearly not under control for the runway level, which is weird if the altimeter was set correctly & the approach lights were visible when we first saw the TU-22. Surely the option to eject was available in a scenario that was never going to end well. Either way, a monumental cock-up.

Thought that myself Supra, does seem strange that anyone would brave those conditions unless of course he was filming for a specific reason ie: the a/c was attempting an emergency landing for reasons not yet known and maybe required documenting. Except for the initial words of acceptance he sounds like he wasn’t surprised, the video is pretty seamless making me wonder if it was remote camera.

It’s clear to see that there is no runway lighting on which leads me to think neither was the approach lighting

It was recorded by a servicemen at the air base, near the city of Olenegorsk. This was also on a routine training mission.

Either way, without all the speculation, it's a tragic event. RIP.

Might have been low on fuel or declared an ife for example hydraulic failure. So had to attempt a landing.

Seemed to snap in the middle.....thought it might bounce intact, not snap.....structural problems?

Ejection would've been the safe option or diversion. TU-22 don't have refuelling booms anymore do they? After SALT or whatever it was. Perhaps diversion was not an option.
