Hi,
I'll be in Cornwall for the first time in years in April. I was hoping someone with local knowledge could answer these questions about some Cornish Wrecks and Relics.
1) Newquay / St.Mawgan: Are the Lynx XZ607 and Tornado ZH553 visible from outside?
2) Predannack: is Sea King XV657 still there? Is it where all the Fire School hulks use to be located?
3) Perranarworthal: is Wessex XS522 still here, I can't see any reports since 2010!
4) Mabe: is Lynx XZ648 visible from public land? It looks well tucked away on Google Earth.
Thanks in advance for any feedback.
Cheers,
DC

Re: Cornish W & R requests
Hi DC
I've no local knowledge, but in respect of Newquay XZ607 & ZH553 both appear to have returned to JARTS at Boscombe Down. I saw what appeared to be them (neither were carrying serials) at Boscombe last July, and Ben Sadler's report from there in January - as per his post to Mil-Spotters Forum - also supports that view, i.e.
<snip>
[Boscombe Down - 29th January 2024]
JARTS Area;
[XS646] Andover C1, cockpit only
[XW912] TAD019 Gazelle AH1
[XX165] Hawk T1, cockpit (I couldn’t see the extreme rear which should also be dumped here)
XX240/840 Hawk T1
[XZ183] ‘ZA718’ ‘XZ615’ Lynx AH7, cab only
[XZ209] ‘XZ615’ Lynx AH7, damaged cab only
[XZ607] Lynx AH7, cab only
ZA560 Tornado GR4
ZF622 Navajo, fuselage
ZG751 Tornado F3, centre fuselage
[ZH553] Tornado F3
[ZJ807] Typhoon T3, fuselage
[ZJ810] Typhoon T3, fuselage
<snip>
As for XZ648 at Mabe, I notice there's a close up photo of it (fitted with the boom from 'XZ680') on a trailer taken in December 2022 within the Eurodemobbed website, so it may be worth contacting the owners in advance of your visit and asking if you can access the site to photograph it; or maybe just try 'knocking on the door' when you're in the area and asking to do the same.

Re: Cornish W & R requests
Thanks for that DickFlute, I never realised they'd moved back to Boscombe.
Appreciate your help,

Re: Cornish W & R requests
All I can add is that XV657 was last noted at Predannack in Oct 2022, so probably now gone. XZ607 went back to Boscombe in Apr 2023. ZH553 returned there in June 2023, this may eventually go onto Italy.

Thanks Tim, appreciate the update.
