Eastnor Park / Kington / Pontrilas air exercises 29th September-2nd October

Post by benben » Mon Sep 28, 2020 12:33 pm

Hi all, saw the above notams active for Tuesday to Friday this week, was wondering if anyone had any inside information about which is likely to be in use each day? I'm in the area Wednesday and Thursday and am hoping to catch something but I'm assuming they won't actually be using all 3 sites each day!

Looks like Eagles may have been involved in the exercise today

Previous exercises at these locations have used Hawk T1, sometimes Hawk T2 and today F-15E

No idea what will turn up until it........................turns up.

Enjoy

Yes used to visit Hay on Wye for the FAC exercises when they were known as "Exercise Fast Moved", loads of types then, now it can be anything as small as a Da42, especially at the FAC exercises at Pembrey which takes place from tomorrow.

Yeah, I understand that there's no knowing what a/c will show until they do if they do. Just wondered if there's anything more specific on which site is being used each day as knowing my luck I'll pick the wrong one of the three!

not that I know of. The three Notamed sites give weather / cloud base "options" for the local ground units which can easily get to any of these sites.

Sometimes it's worth messaging the mobile numbers given out on the Notams. I have done that in the past, and they have been very friendly with the answers. Bit cheeky, but worth it .

To recommend using a number used for safety may not be one of the best ideas.

Messaged or phoned the Notamed numbers mostly during my flying days to check if exercises still went ahead if we were planning to fly in the area, sometimes I'd ask what types were involved and they were helpful, this was in the days of Jaguar & Harrier, if they don't want to reply to you, fair enough, no harm done.
