Lens for Canon
Lens for Canon
Hello everyone,
I am pretty new to Aviation photography and struggling to get my head round all the lenses, the only downside is my budget, i seen the Canon 55-250mm for a reasonable price but is it any good?
How much better could get i if i bumped my budget up to £200? Any help would be great and thanks for your time
Best wishes

I currently have the Canon 55-250mm and have had it for over a year now. I think the lens is great for it's price and for anyone who is new to Aviation photography. However, I have noticed that it occasionally malfunctions on the AF and can be a trouble to fix. Additionally, the lack in focal length can be a big hindrance when photographing aircraft at distances, and I am hoping to upgrade to a Sigma 100-300mm, when I get the money .
All in all the 55-250mm is a decent lens and I am sure you'll enjoy taking pics with it.
As for the 70-300mm i am not sure as I have never used it.
Hope this helps,
T73.

Re: Lens for Canon
I have a Canon 75-300 (non IS version) and its fantastic. Nice and sharp. I have read that many view it as the best (other than top quality "L" lenses)
It would be a good starting lens for sure and give you some reach. You could do with a smaller one for static however like a 18-55 kit lens (which you may have?)

Re: Lens for Canon
Have a look at MPB for a great quality second user lense, I have dealt with them a few times with no complaints at all, service is excellent and gear come with a 6 month warrantee.
Cheers and good hunting.

If you can keep your head whilst all around are losing theirs, you have probably completely misread the situation!!
Re: Lens for Canon
Have to go along with the 70-300mm option for most airshows, budget options can be found with makes like
Sigma or Tamron in this range.
Canon do a few models in this range but will depend on your budget.
check out our site sponsor Mpb for a deal.
