Canon 400D vs 1100D

Post by NGAutoArt » Mon Sep 30, 2013 3:46 pm

Hello everyone.

Apologies if this subject has been covered a gazillion times, but i'm making a general enquiry as to whether it's worth selling my 400D Canon and buying an 1100D. There seem to be some decent deals out there right now, my budget is tight and the 400 is painfully slow at times. I've had it for 4 years and it was 4 years old when i bought it!

I do love the 400, and want to keep it for nostalgia if nothing else, but i'm prepared to let it go IF an 1100 is worth it....

Are there any better alternatives (new or used) below £300?

What say you?

Neil :)

*Edit* I'm not bothered about video.

I have minimal knowledge of Canon but as far as i know, the more numbers the lower down the scale the model the camera is.

I.e a Canon 5D would be better than a 50D & a 50D would be better than a 500D.

If your looking to upgrade with £300 look to get a 50D, if look around you could get a decent one for that.

I don't think you would notice a lot of difference between the 2, I would suggest going up in the x00 range to something like a 500D if you want to upgrade or moving to the next range up and going for a 40D. The 1100D is designed as an entry level camera with a lot of similar features to the 400D, such as 9AF points, similar sized LCD and the same burst rate of 3fps, so if you're looking for something faster that's probably the wrong way to go. Hope that helps :)

I had a 400D before the insurance company replaced it with a 1100D.
Apart from the new battery type, SD card and video mode there isnt much new. The image quality does seem better however and seems like you get a little faster fps.
If your looking to upgrade from the 400D I wouldn't say this is your camera.

I use an 1100D as my No2 camera for ground shots etc. It's a good camera but I think it's mainly designed as an entry level DSLR. The frame rate is quite low and it's not ideal for flying shots. I agree with Paulo that you might be better going for a second hand 40D or 50D from somewhere like MPB.

For me, I would go with a used canon 40D or 50D, far faster FPS

WEX have an excellent condition 50D for sale at the moment £319

Thank you ever so much guys.

Brill advice, taken onboard. With my savings, plus my next drawing commission, the 50D has just been paid for!

Now to sell everything and get my savings back!

Thank you again.
