Bigma problem

Post by Sooty » Sat Sep 22, 2012 6:47 pm

Whilst using my Bigma this weekend,i noticed that when trying to focus, sometimes the distance scale marker,
not sure what it's called, went all the way to the end,(the opposite way from infinity). When i then tried to focus on
something distant, there was no movement at all.I have tried it on another body and its fine.Have also tried a different lens
on the body it wouldn't focus on,and that was fine.At first i thought the contacts needed a clean, but not sure now.
Also, which is the best method to clean the contacts?Have read pencil rubbers, cloth with a spot of vodka?
Any advice is greatly appreciated.

Regards,
Sooty.

Spot of WD 40 on a cotton bud works well,
would do both the camera and the lens contacts.

I occasionally use a Jewellers gold cleaning cloth, as the contacts are plated this works quite well

Cleaned the lens contacts, seems slightly better.
Will do the camera tomorrow, off to work soon.
Am i right in thinking, that low contrast objects,do sometimes make the lens 'hunt'?
Although, having said that, the distance marker goes all the way and just stays there!
Hope that makes sense.

Sooty - I found the Bigma quite difficult to focus lock especially in grey conditions. The trick I found was to try and acquire lock at 100-200mm and zoom slowly in from there. This produced less hunting and a more stable lock.

Found mine has been having auto focus problems, since Fairford. (Blamed the damp but its continued) Thought it was low contrast subjects but Reds at Leuchars played silly b too :(

Sooty, did cleaning camera contacts help ?
