Canon 7D Mkii vs Canon 90D

Hi All,
I'm looking to upgrade my camera body. For reference the lens I use is a Canon 100-400mm Mk 1.

I'm tossing up between a 2nd hand Canon 7D Mkii or 2nd hand Canon 90D (possibly 80D). I'm drawn to the 7D partly due to budget, partly because a lot on here seem to have praised it's focusing speed and usability in the past.

I realise both, especially the 7D are outdated. I'm a casual user and only get it out 4-5 times a year, mainly RIAT and the occasional Lakenheath/ Mildenhall. I'm not too fussed about about having the latest and greatest or the highest spec pictures. Just want something reliable that will get me some good pictures for my wall at home. For reference I currently use 2 faithful 400Ds and have been for the best part of almost 2 decades. In essence I want a good camera from the last 5-10 years.

What would you recommend based upon past or present experience? Or perhaps I'm missing another Canon body that's worth considering! Not to add too many questions but where does everyone recommend buying 2nd cameras from? Wex and MPB seem to have some good offerings.

Thanks all for your time.

I have both and would go with 7Dii. The 7dII is a cracking camera, a little dated but much more user friendly than the 90D, Id always hoped they bring a 7Diii out but after waiting and waiting I got a 90D instead. The 90D is a decent camera but took a lot of work to get good results out of it.

Naturally I'd be inclined to suggest the R7 over the 7D as mirrorless is the way forward however the 7D MkII is an excellent camera.

With the pending announcement of the R7 MkII ID I'd imagine the price of the R7 will drop slightly soon if you can hang on for a few weeks that is, I know RIAT is coming up fast!

Naturally you'd have to use the 100-400 with the EF adapter if you go down the mirrorless route however it's pretty painless.

Thanks for your input. Have you had experience with using an EF adapter on the R7? Are there any drawbacks/ issues?

There should be any issues with an EF/RF adapter as there is no glass in it. I have a Canon R and the lenses work very well. However it is worth doing your own research on line. There are reports that the EF 100-400 Mk1 does not perform very well with the R7.

Also worth bearing in mind that learning a new camera takes a while and mirrorless is a completely new level. It's taken me quite a while to get settings right and my "keeper" rate went down significantly switching from DSLR.
