Hello All

Looking to purchase some additional batteries for my Cannon EOS 800D. Genuine cannon batteries are fairly expensive in comparrison to aftermarket alternatives. What is everyones oppinion on aftermarket batteries, are they any good? and does anyone have any recomendations? OR should I just stick to genuine cannon batteries?

I've used aftermarket batteries for Fujifilm and Nikon, Duracell are quite good batteries also so are baxxtar ones are very good. Both those brands I've just mentioned have exactly the same build quality and battery time as the original batteries. I've found that if you buy the non branded ones or the really cheap ones they don't last as long, basically if it looks to good to be true it probably is.

I use Top Max batteries in my Canon 7D. Never had an issue. The only thing to be warey with is they don't give a fully accurate battery life but along as you have a spare they work fine.

They charge via USB so I tend to charge mine using a cheap portable solar charger.

I used 7DayShop batteries in my 20D and 40D and never had an issue. Nowadays I've got 1 Canon battery that came with the R6 but I pretty much only use Neewer in the grip as you get a pack of 2 and a USB charger for about £60. As yet I've not had a problem in over a year of use.

I've found the Canon batteries are better, last longer than after market ones. I've had two Duracells and they didn't last, good performance at first but over time they discharged quite quickly in use, didn't hold a charge. I've still got the original e6 from my Canon 7D I bought over 12 years ago, and its going strong. Hahnel seem to be pretty good.

Always be aware of the fire risk due to thermal runaways from aftermarket batteries, especially unbranded Chinese ones. The attached video gives some idea albeit that the majority of examples are from larger devices.

I think you get what you pay for.In this case is it worth the risk ?

7dayshop used to be good for battery replacement. Hahnel?
Was a good 3rd party brand. Still have some from around 2004 and work still too this day in my old D30 & D60. plus 20D. Have never purchased a Canon spare always 3rd party and touch wood found them to be fine. Get around 4 or more for the price of 1 Canon.
End of the day Canon do not make battery packs. It's a 3rd party branded Canon.

Thanks for all the reponces everyone. Very helpfull. Have ordered some duracell ones and will see how I get on. I dont unfortunly get to go out spotting very often so didnt want to spend a lot of money on somehting that I will only be using once or twice a month.

I have a Hahnel for my 80D in addition to the Canon. The Hahnel last longer (bought at the same time as the camera, has equal use).
