Foggy pictures

Post by 2e1var » Mon Apr 18, 2022 12:00 pm

Just got the Sony Alpha 58 out for the first time this year, it's an SLT by the way. All my images are blurred or probably better to describe as foggy. Absolutely fine through the viewfinder though. Only time I've had anything like this was taking the camera from a cool air conditioned environment to a humid one outdoors in Mexico, although that was blurry through the viewfinder too and cleared after 20 mins or so. I've left it with the lens off on a sunny windowsill all morning but no change. I'm thinking damp or something but being an SLT I don't think you can get to the sensor. Any ideas ?

I'm not a Sony user but a Google search appears to suggest you can get to the sensor by releasing a tab and lifting the mirror (I didn't think an SLT had one!). Should be page 187 of the SLT-A58 handbook. Hope that helps. Good luck.

Thank you, looked that up and gave it a go. Was worried it may have been damp so left it with the mirror open in a sunny spot for a few days, no change. Decided to bite the bullet and buy a cleaning kit but before I did had a go at shooting in full auto. No issues at all, apeture/shutter mode still foggy. Did a full reset on the camera and the problem has completely gone away now ?!?!

Hurray! An extension of that well-tried "switch off, switch on again" cure-all! Good to hear all is well again. I guess the cause of the problem will remain one of life's little mysteries.
