Affinity Photo discount

Post by Alan425 » Fri Mar 20, 2020 11:20 am

For anyone interested Serif are giving a 50% discount off their software at the moment.

Affinity Photo is now £23.99 so couldn't resist at that price!

Hi Alan,

How are you getting on with Affinity photo?
I have just been wondering if to give it ago instead of photoshop.

Regards

I needed to buy Affinity Designer (also half price right now) and trialled Affinity Photo. I don't do much/any photo editing at the moment but didn't want to overlook a bargain for £24. I'm afraid I found its user interface difficult to navigate and trying too hard to be slick and quick. Perhaps my 20 or so years experience of using older versions of Photoshop mean I'm used to clunkier interfaces, but I didn't get excited enough to spend the £24.

I use Lightroom 6 & Elements 15 and I though I'd try something different to get away from relying on Adobe products. As I appear to have a bit of time on my hands at the moment I've been downloading free 30 day trials of the various imaging software out there. Affinity was one of them and like page-verify, found the interface challenging to use as I'm stuck in my ways from using Lightroom/Elements.

Ashley, I've not yet had the opportunity to use it much, but have found the basic tasks fairly intuitive.

There is a 90 day free trial if you wanted to try it before committing to buying.

I also have Lightroom 6 but avoid a monthly subscription photo software and Lightroom 6 has no updates and is standalone. Had Affinity Photo for several months and lots to learn but am a big fan. For my more serious pics to "Develop" I now use Affinity. At that price what's not to like.

That's good to know PeteF that you don't have to spend big money to find something that's usable. Thanks for sharing and encouraging people to try the cheaper options.

I'm finding On 1 RAW 2020 slightly easier to get my head around than Affinity.

Are there any other "easier-to-use" editors, especially with RAW?

Been trying the On1 trial and it's just too blommin' finicky. Too many options! Even old versions of Photoshop make my head explode. It's an age thing.

I use good old Google Picasa 3, albeit its way out of date, but it still does what I want albeit with jpegs. Never really got my head around RAW, but I'd like to.

Thanks for any advice.

I've recently bought PhotoShop Elements 2020 for a one-off purchase price of £85 and once you're in "Expert" mode it feels like a modern version of the good ol' proper PhotoShop I was used to years ago. I was worried it might have been made too simplified for my liking, but not in my view. I switched from using Windows to MacOs which is why I couldn't reuse my old PhotoShop CS1 licence, but Elements feels like a sound investment.

I know a lot of people think it's a bit clunky compared to the likes of Adobe & Lightroom etc, but personally I think that Canon DPP can still hold it's own against the competition, especially in RAW format. Canon might not have all the bells & whistles of the other brands, but it is certainly a lot simpler to use and is regularly updated.

Thanks, just downloaded DPP (the web site said it wasn't available for my EOS-1D on a Mac, so I pretended I had an EOS-5D with a serial number of 23489234873243234 and all was well). I'm fairly sure it can do most of what I want for free, oops!
