Need a New Bag - Thoughts on these 2
Need a New Bag - Thoughts on these 2
Hi,
I've outgrown my current bag with the addition of the 70-200 lens & soon to be addition of the 7d Mk2 (Or maybe Full Frame)
Looking at bag options I'm drawn to these 2
Lowepro Pro Runner BP 450 AW II - On Amazon here for £159 - https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B00W8T2DPQ/ ... R9Z1USIO8W
Or
Lowepro Flipside 500 AW Backpack again on Amazon for £119 - https://www.amazon.co.uk/Lowepro-Flipsi ... ipside+400
Anybody use either of these ?
My Gear I carry when travelling, Obviously when at home etc.. some does get left behind but this is worse case
Canon 70 d + Grip
Canon 7d Mk 2 (Soon) + Grip
100-400 L Mk 2
70-200 L Mk 2
24-105 L
50mm
Flashgun
Charger(s)
Cokin Filters & holder
Uniden Bearcat 125
Memory Cards in Hardshell Case
Maybe a Laptop/Tablet
Compact Binoculars (sometimes)
Tripod (strapped to outside)
I've not included personal items such as waterproofs, hat, gloves, food etc... as I don't think there is a bag that will take everything, the camera gear is the main concern, other bits can be stuffed in when on site, (eg I wouldn't need chargers of small lenses in the loop).
Thoughts & recommendations much appreciated, my next flyaway trip will be the F1 testing in Barcelona at the end of Feb & I'd like to be sorted for them.
Regards
Andy

Can't help with either of those I'm afraid. Have you tried http://www.cambags.com which have real world reviews of what fits ?Andy_99 wrote:Hi,

BTW that's some weight of gear you'll be heaving around !!!
Re: Need a New Bag - Thoughts on these 2
I used to use the 450AW and still use it for weddings and events . Its a great bag. I took a photo of it a couple of years ago before i went to RIAT loaded with a Nikon 500mm f/4, Nikon 70-200mm f/2.8, Nikon 24-120mm f/4, 16-35mm f/4, D4, D810 w/grip and a D7200 w/grip. It was possible to get them all in if i removed the grip from one camera, but it was tight, very tight. I've out grown the 450 now and had to get one twice as big (which is not a good thing!). I know its not Canon, but hope it helps

Thanks for the info so far jaydean & Taxboy, exactly the kind of info I'm looking for, will have a browse on Cambags to see whats out there.
Yes the kit weighs a ton & it has literally loaded my current bag https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B00 ... UTF8&psc=1 beyond it's capacity & that's before getting the 2nd body.
I want to get my choice correct this time

Hi Andy,
Was going to recommend the Tamrac Expedition 7 but I see they are now discontinued. Tamrac themselves recommend the Anvil as a suitable replacement but I've no experience of this newer type although it may be worth a look.
Dave.

Everyone has a photographic memory; some just don't have film.

I don't think the Billingham rucksack will accommodate all the kit and for carrying the sort of weight specified I definitely would want a waist belt on the bagroughcutter wrote:Push the boat out 'an grab yerself a "Billingham", a bag for life.

Hi Andy,
I've got a similar amount of gear, swap the 80D for a 5DII and a Sigma WA for your 50mm. I pushed the boat out for a Think Tank Airport Navigator https://www.thinktankphoto.com/collecti ... -navigator. With that weight of kit, and for a long day, wheels are the way to go. Expensive, yes, but in the context of the value of the contents........

Lol, i've done totally the opposite, dumped my lowepro backpack cos i can't be arsed breaking my back dragging all my kit around with me any more! Last year it spent all of riat sat in the left luggage , i either sat in the grandstand with body and 600mm, or carried a body and short lens around the static! With current state of photographic opportunities i will prob end up getting rid of abody too......!

Do remember to check out the airline websites for carry on size and weight limits.
IATA are proposing a new size limit which is a bit smaller than the current BA one.
The new size is proposed to be 55cm x 35cm x 20cm, don't know if they will all adopt it though.
Many camera bags are deeper than 20cm, hopefully they will squash a little!

Re: Need a New Bag - Thoughts on these 2
Whereabouts are you Andy? I bought one of these recently and then, after a rush of blood, got myself a Lowepro 400AW, so this is now surplus to requirements.
https://www.amazon.com/Abonnyc-Camera-B ... B00YS1OP2G
It is surprisingly good for a cheap bag - although there only appears to be a yellow version on Amazon UK now, which is a bit garish. Mine has red detailing and was only £44 - as per the link.
It may not look as good as a major brand, but it is surprisingly roomy. It easily takes an 80D, Sigma 150-600 (attached or separate) standard zoom lens and a wide angle, plus a bit more space. When I got the Lowepro, it took some time to decide which one to keep. I think I only plumped for the Lowepro due to some subconscious brand snobbery, despite my kit being tighter in that than the Abonnyc. It is almost brand new and has never been out of the house.

I have the Lowepro Flipside 500 AW Backpack and fill it with a 7d with grip, a 300mm f4 prime plus 1.5 extender, a 60d plus grip with a Sigma WA fitted, plus a Benro Tripod attached to the front. I do like the bag, but it has to be said its already going in for repairs after limited use over 1 year as the stitching's going on the left arm strap to the point that i am ultra careful with it and use a different bag when possible
