Post by James Cutting » Mon Jan 25, 2016 11:50 am

Morning,

I have just been window shopping around the 2 above lenses, and was wondering if anybody had any shots with these lenses that I could look at please?

Can't find many shots of aircraft with either of these lenses :grr:

Thanks in advance!!

Used my Tamron 150-600 in the sun for the first time at Valley last week.

Lovely, and a steal at current prices.

Click 'military aircraft'
Then click RAF Valley.

The shots taken on approach, lining up etc are all with the Tamron, and were taken ,according to google earth .21miles from the piano keys!

Hope this helps?
Cheers

Hi James,

Look in the Coningsby folder, and the shots taken at the eastern end taxiway on a wet, foggy, low cloud day are all with the 150-600.

I pumped up the iOS to 6400 in places as it was so gloomy just to get a semi useable pic, but some I'm really pleased with.

I'll be taking it to shoot F-4's in Japan in March, the USA in May, RIAT in July, and maybe the loop in the next couple of weeks too.

Oh and I have a canon 100-400 'L' too but this is sharp up the top end where you need it.
Cheers
Dave

Hi Dave,

OK cool will take a look soon.

I am also looking at the Canon 100-400 MK1, which I can get around £600

Has anybody seen a comparison between these lenses & the Canon 100-400 L Mk2

I'm in the market for a new zoom ready for the airshow season/sunshine

I know there's a fairly hefty difference in price between them

Camera body wise it's a 70D that I have now but may also purchase a 7D Mk2 later in the year should funds allow.

Hi Andy,

Try doing a youtube search? may get something there.

I think I might look at the Canon 100-400 Mk1 for my next big zoom after the Canon EF 75-300mm

Did you decide yet?

I'm considering the merits of these 2 lenses at the moment.

The specs and prices are similar, but the Sigma weighs in at nearly a kilo heavier [2860g] than the Tamron [1951g], so I'm leaning towards the Tamron at the moment. eglobalcentral have it for £579.99.

I'm currently using a Canon 760D, mostly with a Tamron SP 70-300mm f/4.0-5.6 Di VC USD.

I'm quite happy with my Tamron, but need longer range, as I use it a lot at home, for OTT shots.

A good comparison review here.

I tried both the Sigma C and the Tamron at RIAT last year. I definately preferred the Sigma as it seemed to have the edge of the Tamron but it's very much personal choice. I went and bought the Contemporary last Saturday so not really tried it out but for the half hour spent walking around taking random shot the results look promising. I own a couple of Sigma lenses and can't fault them...the value for money is excellent. I'm sure Tamron owners will say the same about theirs though. Another reason i went for the Sigma was the USB dock. This allows a number of tweaks to really dial the lens in.

There's a good thread on Talk Photography about the Sigma C. It's mainly bird shots but they're a few planes shots which show what it can do.

Thanks for the update. I think you might be right... It'll depend on what you're used to, to some extent.
