Re: Canon Lens For Static Photography
Another vote for the Tamron... It's transformed the clarity of my static shots and having F2.8 capability is really useful for indoor (museum) photography

Re: Canon Lens For Static Photography
Just my opinion, but keeping your kit to an ideal two-lens set up is much better. If this is your plan, don't leave too much of a focal length gap between the two.
I have the 100-400 II and am currently using a 24-70 II. Top quality lens at f2.8 (although not ideal for a crop body, for static shots) and it doesn't sound like much, but that 30 mil gap can be a pain at times. So, maybe the 15-85 mil is more the way to go from those mentioned, and at f3.5 the difference is minimal.

Re: Canon Lens For Static Photography
the Canon 24-105mm L is a well regarded piece of glass
Re: Canon Lens For Static Photography
I use a Canon 24-105mm L as my standard walk around lens, only issue is indoor non flash photography where it can be a little slow...so I keep a 50mm f1.8 in my bag just in case.

Are these the 2 candidates, I'm looking for the same solution myself

I'm leaning towards the 24-105 L because I don't tend to do a lot of indoor stuff so the little extra reach will come in handy.
Will go for a 50mm f1.8 though for those occassional moments.

Re: Canon Lens For Static Photography
I'd just add that it is worth remembering that an EF-S will only work on an APS-C body, not an issue if you stick with APS-C of course but if perhaps in the future you went full frame you'd be looking for a replacement lens !
Re: Canon Lens For Static Photography
I'll second the 24-105 as well. A superb lens and matched with your 100-400 will give you everything from 24-400 with no gaps!Wallace wrote:the Canon 24-105mm L is a well regarded piece of glass

Think I'll be ordering the 24-105 L come payday.
Re: Canon Lens For Static Photography
You won't regret it. As an aside, as someone else in thread has given a link to HDEW, I use them all the time. Great value and great service, give 'em a try (PS: Please people do not start on the grey import conversation again, WE KNOW!)Andy_99 wrote:Think I'll be ordering the 24-105 L come payday.
