Printing Photos

Post by LightningGoose » Fri Sep 23, 2011 3:48 pm

Hi
I was wondering if anyone knew why when printing a photo of mine, a Hawk in the Mach Loop, the nose was cut off, and how I could avoid it? The photo on the computer shows the nose with a small amount of space before the edge of the photo, yet when printed the tip of the nose is cut off. The photo is a 8x6.
Thanks :)

What are the dimensions of the file you are printing (pixels x pixels)?

You are printing an image that comes out of your camera with a 3:2 ratio, on paper that has a 4:3 ratio.

Live with either the left and right sides being cropped, print it "letterbox" style (ie. with a border top/bottom), or crop the image with a ratio to match the print ratio. How you do any of those depends upon which software you use.

The only editing software I have I Nikon View NX2, do you know how I would do it with that?

Not being a Nikon user, I do not know View NX2.... so caveat emptor... ;)

When you go to print, look for a "crop to fit" checkbox. Toggling it should show how the image fills the print area.

Anyway, In the image edit part, on the right tool panel is a crop tool (if you scroll down). You can select a ratio (eg. 3x4 landscape), then draw the crop box on the image (by click'n'drag) - making it as large as necessary. Once done it can be moved around to select the crop area exactly (by clicking inside the crop area and draging). I think that's about it...
