C-47A slide from 1979 scanned and processed in Topaz AI

Post by xkekeith » Sun Feb 02, 2025 8:37 am

In July 1979 I photographed an ex Moroccan AF C-47A passing through Southend, not that unusual in those days so I only took one photo with my precious expensive Kodak 64 slide film. Unfortunately on processing I discovered it had suffered shutter shake and produced an image that was unusable !

Fast forward 46 years and I processed a scan of the original image with Topaz AI, I am still learning how to use it but the quick result is a much improve image:

Topaz AI is not cheap but worth considering if you want to recover some old scans....

The C-47A N54608 was ex Moroccan AF 92136 with previous US service 42-92136 / RAF FL544 and BOAC / BEA / Cambrian G-AGIP

Great result, you would think it was a totally different image.
Cheers.

Great outcome. Did you use Super focus BETA or one of the other AI sharpen models?

Stunning improvement! Well done in getting that enhanced IQ from the at best fuzzy original. :thumb:
If you're willing to say, how long did you work on that one image to retrieve it?

I was playing with the software for about 20 minutes, a bit of trial & error, and have not yet looked at any of the training videos provided !
Hopefully once I’ve actually taken the trouble to do some training I might improve the end result…….

Excellent result & very reasonable timescale for the enhancement. I'm sure that time taken will reduce dramatically with practice. :)

Impressive result! I do think there are some parts of the image where it shows that the AI didn't know what to do with the information. Still, it looks very convincing to me.
