I've used both of these lenses, albeit on different cameras. When you get used to the 50-500 and accept it for what it is, it's a really good lens - I've got some cracking pics with it. The 100-400 too needs working properly but if I had to choose now I would choose the 100-400. It has a slightly better IQ and you can push it to around 360-380mm where you need really good light to push the Bigma up to 420-430mm. That's not a great difference on a 1.6x crop factor camera.
