OCEAN SKY 19 (DACT 2019)
The Air Defense Exercise “Ocean Sky 19” (previously known as DACT) will take place at Gando Air Base (Canary Islands) from October the 19th till November the 1st.

Participating aircraft will include F-15C Eagle from United States Air Force (USAF), F-16C from Turkey, a NATO E-3 SENTRY, and Spanish Air Force EF-18 Hornets (12th, 15th and 46th Wings) and Eurofighter EF2000 (11th and 14th Wings), other Spanish Air force units will also support the exercise including, C-295 (35th Wing) and Super Puma and Persuader (82th Group) plus A400M/KC-130 (31th Wing).

In order of showing the general public and the aviation enthusiast the importance of this exercise, Spanish Air Force Air combat Command (MACOM) joint with Canaries Air Command (MACAN) will carry out a spotter’s day on Monday October the 28th. The event, with their inscription processes will be officially confirmed by the MACOM/MACAN at due time in the Spanish Air Force official web site (www.ejercitodelaire.mde.es).

The Ocean Sky 19 Exercise is developed and coordinated by the Spanish Air Force MACOM within their Air Defense Units advanced training plan. The main goal of this exercise is the advanced training of fighter pilots in air combat tactics by using mock up air combats with dissimilar fighter, within an increasing difficulty air campaign. Where mission planners and fighter pilots have to face advanced and complex simulated combat situations.

Wonder if the Turkish will be there given that they are busy (bombing people who were recently American allies)

It looks like I am the only one going on FC
Flight and cheap hotel booked
And if the Turkish AF don't turn up
It still looks good

I’m there for the last week, already booked a holiday without prior knowledge of the exercise though.

No doubt I’ll get a day or two up there to get some photos.

Possibly. There’s a US C-17 just off the coast of Morocco heading towards the Canary Islands also.

Currently routing inbound Gando are a couple of Turkish AF aircraft. 1 C130 9near Gibraltar), 1 A400(near Sardinia) and 1 KC135R (near Corsica), with i suppose the F16's in trail.

You did, I meant I’d already booked the holiday before realising the exercise was on.

That’s the day I land there, unfortunately probably not as I land midday and my accommodation is the opposite side of the island. It’s a package holiday as well so I need to get aboard the coach provided.

Anyone there already? If so are they flying many sorties each day and are the sorties out at sea or over the island?

Edit - judging by the photos on Instagram, the heritage scheme Reaper is on the exercise for anyone that hasn’t seen it yet aka me

I don't land until Saturday

I suspect the sorties are out at sea

Seem to be flying several sorties a day. Usually last sorties come back about 6 in the evening. All over the sea as far as I can tell. Turkish F16's are here. Seem to be 4 present. Support was 71-01468 C-130E and 15-0051 A400M both arrived on the 18th. Not sure if they've stayed though.

The Turkish support all returned home including a KC135 on the 19th noted passing Gibraltar on ADSB
