I've been to Patrick AFB a couple of times, I stuck to photography from the beach sand dune which overlooks the thresh hold to the main runway and C130/H60 ramps. The dunes provide good views and aircraft are photographable from there with 300mm. The Police are hot if you start spotting from the road/perimeter fence but they don't tend to see you from the dunes.
In my experience Patrick can be very slow movement wise but if you are patient can throw up nice visitors.

Harry when I visited Florida in 2008 I found that the following museums were really welcoming and well worth a visit.

http://vacwarbirds.org

http://www.fantasyofflight.com

http://warbirdadventures.com

I tried to get a base visit at MacDill AFB, but even with a portfolio of published articles I couldn’t secure access. However things may have changed.
