RNAS Henstridge 70th Anniversary Weekend
Posted: Sat Jun 29, 2013 8:17 pm
Henstridge are holding a weekend of events to celebrate 70 years since its founding as RNAS Henstridge (HMS Dipper). A great family and community event today, all free of charge with a modest LAA fly-in and a display of some past and present resident aircraft types.
Apparently one of only two airbases constructed during WW2 with 5 runways and the only surviving airfield with its dummy deck still intact (including the arrestor gear still n chambers below ground).
AT-6D Harvard masquerading as an SNJ-5 Texan (G-TXAN) - Harvards were based at Henstridge

Resident Jungmann (G-JWJW)

Supermarine Spitfire 26 (I know it's not really military, but what the heck) - G-PIXY

One of the resident Yak 52s of the Yakovlev team (pseudo Russian AF marking - G-YAKN)

New Tiger Moth experience flight company based out of Henstridge - lovely restored Tigers G-ADWJ and G-ANEW

Finally, the RNHF Sea Fury T20 performed a couple of fly throughs on its way back to RNAS Yeovilton
A really enjoyable day and for those interested in civvie types i'll be posting those to the CA sister site.
