50mm / Shallow DoF Shots?

Post by Jonay » Sat Apr 02, 2011 6:39 pm

I don't think I've ever seen an aircraft shot with a 50mm prime or another with a really small depth of field.. has anyone got any from airshows or similar?

I'd be really interested to see how they turned out! :)

May have some kicking around, i do like my 50mm F1.8, its very sharp, also very cheap. and very underestimated.

I take static pics with my Nikon 50mm f1.4 . Forget the poor zoom lens,a 50mm is a must especially if you have a full frame camera. The lens is sharp and images are really nice.Is perfect for airshow static shots.this is my point of view.

No close ups with it wide open at f1.8, as the effect is not my cup of tea.
but a few i have on photobucket taken with the 50mm f1.8.

Unfortunately it's the wide open/shallow depth of field look I was watching for, but thanks anyway!

I use an EF 85mm F1.8 USM, but tend to use the 1.8 end for abstract/arty shots, rather than shots of a whole aircraft. I can post a few of those if you wish?

Cheers,
Martin
