While this is a post is from the VE Day season opener, (really not much historically relevant aircraft) actually a WW2 flying day with unrelated brief pairings. Make no mistake about what is transpiring at Duxford the passing of a generation or two and they will change it forever, although one may not notice as they implement the 10 year plan.

The main draw to Duxford for e at least has always been the variety of period air worthy historic aircraft. Giving some of them notice to quit, allegedly, will only further neuter future flying days and the aurora of the place. A stuffy old museum then of static, dusty aircraft and a few of the museum's own aircraft maintained in flying condition?

The re vamped play area is an overblown expensive cut de sac. Important as play areas are in the right setting, IWM is a serious place, it records what ordinary people have to do heroically because of elitists who think they know better. Making it into Duxfordland will send all the wrong messages.

The proposed green flight development is laudable, if not a seeming extension of CU, but it is not what the IWM is about, at least as far as I am concerned.
Make the most of the curtailed and diminished Airshow experiences while you can.

Right glad that's out of the way on with some photo's

I Have to take issue with your point about the play area, I took my 7 year old son for his first airshow here this weekend and he loved the aircraft however was slightly bored at times and the play area would have given him and countless other children an escape. We need to encourage our children to take an interest in our heritage and I think what the IWM is doing is to be applauded. We will not be around forever and making sure our children gain an interest and insight into out aviation heritage is vital. Creating an area for them to enjoy as well as watch and look at the aircraft is fine by me and probably countless other parents. I say well done IWM!

Take issue with the IWM they demolished the former play area, which needed expanding, but to my mind at least could have been included in a development plan.

They must be way behind on the build of the new one for its early summer 2024 completion. Donated £1.5m by the sponsors that wasn't enough, so the public can contribute to the fill the gap fund and see the new plans here:
