What a Load of Bull - Flying Bulls @ Legends

Post by F3 » Mon Jul 17, 2023 10:23 am

If there's a more photogenic pair of warbirds than the B-25 and P-38 of The Flying Bulls anywhere in the world then I've yet to see them. Based at Innsbruck in Austria and sponsored by the Red Bull energy drink brand they were the stars of Flying Legends 2023 and the organisers are to be congratulated for bringing them over for the show. The P-38's aerobatic display, enhanced by smoke, was truly astonishing and a such a speed that I utterly failed to get a decent shot of it (ho-hum). Maybe after this display other UK show organisers will book them because they are a truly class act. Hope it's not too long before I get to see them again. As for the Flying Legends team (should they happen to read this); any chance of getting the Fokker D.XXI next year?

They were brilliant. Love to see them back. Nice shout on the Fokker. There's a certain Me262 we wouldn't say no to either....

I'd also love to see the Me262 but FL seem to have a No Jets rule. I can only ever remember one occasion when a jet was allowed and that was a LN F-15 which performed a synchro routine with a Mustang. Was nt there that year but remember seeing a pic in one of the mags.

I can understand 'no jets' but the Me262 is of the era that Legends celebrates. Have they not had a Sabre before?

No. Not even when the Golden Apple one was based @ Duxford, nor even Winston (the Meteor F.8) before it went Down Under.
Apparently Jet Warbirds are a different category according to Warbird purists like Stephen Grey who founded FL altho' the late Mark Hanna attempted to bring them under the same roof with Classic Jets and Fighter shows in the mid '90s so it would represent something of a sea change if they did attempt to land the 262 next year.

F-22 at least once, courtesy of RIAT.
