Volkel Photoshoot (F-16AM/F-104G/Hunter)
Volkel Photoshoot (F-16AM/F-104G/Hunter)
Last Saturday, May the 21st, Spotting Group Volkel organised a small photoshoot at Volkel Air Base to allow its members to photograph 3 planes, being a F-16AM, a F-104G and a Hawker Hunter:
1.
First on the line was this F-16AM J-197 from the Volkel based 312 Squadron. 312 is the last Dutch F-16 unit, planned to fly the Viper till spring/summer of 2024 (when the 16's will be replaced by the 35 ). It is wearing special colors on the tail to celebrate 70 years of the Squadron.
2.
The office.
3.
Second in line was this beautiful F-104G Starfighter. The Dutch flew with the (T)F-104G from 1962 till 1984. This D-8114 is being restored by a very enthusiastic group of volunteers on base. Recently they aquired a J-79 engine and hopefully they will be able to taxi with it in the near future (can't wait to hear that sound again!)
4.
This Hawker Hunter F.6A belonged to the Dutch Hawker Hunter Foundation. It was bought from a British civil owner in 2007 and it flew from Leeuwarden Air Base to lots of airshows. Unfortunately the DHHF recently sold this beauty to a Canadian company as it became to expensive to keep her flying in The Netherlands.
Hope you like it, more on: https://www.final-approach.nl/2022/volkel-photoshoot

Thanks for sharing these, hopefully I can get over there myself at some time. Didn't realise that there was just one F-16 unit now.
