Well I've been umming and ahhing about posting my MAKS photos here due to some of the excellent photo posts already, but I've finally decided that they're in the public interest, so here goes.

This will likely be a long drawn out topic running on for many weeks as I still haven't finished processing them all (all 1700 of them ), I'll update the topic title as I add and upload more photos.

So let's start with Day 1 of my visit, this was on the Thursday which was officially a trade day. The day was spent inside the show trying to capture as much of the static as possible.

I only managed to catch a bit of the flying on the trade day as the light is pretty harsh inside the show for aerial photography, it does improve towards the end so I managed to grab a few shots.....

The static and show doesn't change that much from year to year, but if you've never been there before then I highly recommend going. If you're looking for photographs of takeoffs and landings, or the helicopter displays then you really need to get the media platform pass, which although eye wateringly expensive and badly organised is a must for those photos, as you'll see when I start to post Day 2's shots!

Also, if you're into photography then I'd recommend spending at least a day or two over on the riverbank outside the show, as you can get some lovely shots from there.

£158 - the end result of previous non media visitors and some tour groups applying for something they were not entitled to - a media pass.
For those who have not tried it, get together with a few friends and hire a boat for the day.

The Russians don't care whether you're media or not, they just want your money!

Nothing wrong with hiring a boat, you just won't get the takeoff and landing shots and the helis will still probably be a bit too far away, it all depends on what you want.

EDIT: If you do have proper media accreditation then the platform cost is much, much less, and they cover at least part of your Visa costs.

Looking forward to the next instalment, just loved the Il-2 and Mig-3, flying shots weren't half bad either.
