Samurai Spirit (The Last) of Hyakuri

Post by JonoUK » Mon Dec 24, 2018 12:54 pm

Merry Christmas everyone and I wish you all a Happy New Year. Thanks to everyone who I met this year its definitely been a memorable one. My last trip out was one which many a spotter had chosen, time with the Phantoms of Hyakuri and its airshow. I was fortunate to attend the Saturday of the show with a local friend which turned out to be the best day weather wise and where most of these shots were obtained.

My one hope with this trip was to get some Phantom top side shots having seen the type operationally a number of times I wanted to see them fly low and hit hard and Hyakuri more than delivered. 302 squadron, who’s remaining phantoms will transfer to 301 by the end of march 2019 revealed a last minute black special scheme to accompany the existing white one. The pair were used to demonstrate hitting a ground target and it was incredible to see the phantom work an airspace, flying at high speed all over your head, a sight and sound I will never forget.

Pheeeeeeeenominal.
Tarnished only by the odd intruder in the sequence.
Now THAT is artwork.
I do miss my time in the RAF, but every month it reminds me how great it was with a lovely big cheque

There have been some outstanding sets of photos this year, and this ranks within the very top of them.

Magic, thank you.
