Big Cats Last Roar

Post by AMOSASLEF » Wed Aug 31, 2016 7:01 pm

Folks, I've always had a affiliation with the Jaguar, From Holidays in Norfolk and "Nipping for a Paper" to Coltishall to shoot the Cat, Guest Houses in Lossiemouth shooting the Cat with a hangover and the Penultimate occasion at Coningsby in May 2007 for the Jaguar Farewell, The Event at Cosford could not be missed. I have to say the organisation was second to none and our hosts were most hospitable. One difference was the attendees, they all showed courtesy and patience for their fellow photographer - and step ladders were Verbotten so everyone had a great morning. Thanks also to the apprentices who marshalled us round, cleared up the nominal litter and kept us all safe, From the taxi runs, access to the dispersal for close ups and the Water Cannon Salute. The Cats last Roar...........In the UK!

Great Pics but the Jags last roar was at 200ft and 450kts through the Valleys of Wales . Cosford was just a Purrr ;-). Thanks for sharing, so sad :-(

Excellent set of photos from a sad occasion! :'( I gather these were live taxied for training purposes, so is anything 'newer' replacing them or is the role now redundant due to technology and simulators?
Do they still have 'live' Jags at Cranwell? Sorry for so many questions in one post!

Regards,
Steve.

It was their last ever run, apparently. Hence the farewell event.

Nothing is to replace them, all training will now take place in a simulator that is there, its been i use for quite awhile, when i went through Cosford i found the simulator a pain soo its a shame the Jags will be no more. All the Cranwell Jags were moved to Cosford a few years ago now

So, so sad.
But a lovely epitaph.
Had a great time there during my 2 instructional tours.
Great set of images to record the event.
On a totally 'anal note, your hosts were not apprentices (they died out from technical training many many moons ago)... :(
Critically observing Pension regulatory activity... :D

Cheers for the feedback, I made the assumption they were apprentices due to their age and enthusiasm! They all did a great job though. Cheers

I am in tears :(

My second favourite aircraft of all time based at my beloved Colt :Wow:

Well, nothing could ever replace the 'Frightning', could it ;)

If I had a shiny shilling for every hour spent at Scottow crash gate, from 1967--2006, I could buy one of those gorgeous stalky little cats (and a 'Frightning') for my garden (if it was big enough; if not knock the house down and live in the shed)

Thanks for a great nostalgic post

Hi Amos,
What a great event it was.
I cannot thank the organisers enough for their hospitality and there enthusiasm to ensure everybody's needs were met.
Thanks must go to the four "pilots" who put on a great display and posed for numerous photos.
To be that close to the four Jags whilst "purring" will live with me for a long time.
I must agree with regards to the attendees it was all so friendly and not a step ladder in sight.

A big thank you to all those involved from RAF Cosford and the RAF Museum, it was a fitting farewell to the "Big Cat" well and truly executed.

Love the shots you have taken they have captured the spirit of the day.
Will post some myself when I have permission to do so.
all the best
Andy
