101st AB Division Assault Demo - Eerde 17-09-2024

Post by bvdbogaert » Sat Nov 23, 2024 7:55 pm

Back in september the 80th anniversary of Operation Market Garden was held. As I live in that area I took a couple of days of to visit some of the commemorations and events that took place during that week. Not all aviation related, but all very interesting.

At the 17th of september there was an Airborne Assault demo by the 101st Airborne Division near the town of Eerde. Back in september 1944 the Germans were able to cut the corridor up north 2 times near Eerde which caused a delay of almost 48 hours in total. It is considered one of the main reasons that kept the groundforces of reaching Arnhem in time. The heavy fighting that took place near Eerde has established lasting ties between de town and the 101st AB division.

So far for the history lesson. Time for some action by the American 101st Airborne Divison and the Dutch 11th Air Mobile Brigade.
First in where a couple of blackhawks that brought in forces. The LZ was somewhat far away from the public area.

It's not easy to capture muzzle fire, but I managed on a few occasions.
